After their match against Bayern Munich, Manchester United players made a solemn pilgrimage to the memorial site commemorating the victims of the 1958 Munich air disaster. The delegation included Coach Erik Ten Hag, star midfielder Bruno Fernandes, and Rasmus Hojlund.
Renaming Manchesterplatz:
In a poignant act of remembrance, a street was renamed “Manchesterplatz” in honor of the lives lost in the Munich air disaster. Prior to this, CEO Richard Arnold and former team captain Bryan Robson had already placed wreaths at the memorial.
It wasn’t just players and coaching staff who paid their respects; 30 Manchester United supporters were also present to show their reverence for the unfortunate victims.
Young Players’ Tribute:
Even the club’s young talents showed their respect by attending the commemorative event. They were accompanied by the academy director, Travis Binnion, just before their UEFA Youth League match against Bayern’s U19 team. The club emphasized the importance of educating young players about the Munich air disaster, ensuring the legacy lives on.
