Real Madrid’s recent midfield acquisition, Arda Guler, has undergone a successful knee surgery, the Spanish club confirmed on Monday.
Madrid stated that Guler “underwent an arthroscopy of the right knee today (and will) begin physical therapy in the coming days.”
Guler, who signed a 6-year contract with Madrid last month, will, however, begin the season on the sidelines.
No specific timeframe has been provided for the 18-year-old’s debut, but estimates from reports suggest it could extend up to two months.
The Turkish prodigy was secured from Fenerbahce for a fee of €20 million (USD 21.7 million) under the guidance of arch-rivals Barcelona.
A naturally left-footed player, the teenager became the youngest goalscorer for Turkey in June.
Madrid’s Brazilian defender, Eder Militao, and Belgian goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois, are also gearing up for knee ligament surgery.
