Erling Haaland has begun his second season in English football much like his first, delivering two crucial goals in a resounding victory that sets the stage for Manchester City’s championship defense in the Premier League.

The Norwegian forward unleashed clinical finishes in the 4th and 36th minutes on Friday as Man City cruised to a 3-0 win over Burnley, a newly promoted side led by Vincent Kompany, in the opening match of the English top flight. Defensive midfielder Rodri added the remaining goal.

Haaland enjoyed a spectacular debut year at Man City, scoring 52 goals across all competitions, including 36 in the domestic league, propelling Pep Guardiola’s side to a historic treble of Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League titles.

He kicked off the previous season with a brace against West Ham, foreshadowing what was to come, and Haaland made another statement at Turf Moor, even though it didn’t entirely please Guardiola. The City manager was seen remonstrating with Haaland as they headed towards the tunnel after the match, even pushing away a camera that was tracking the duo.

“We’re still in the early stages of this marathon, but I’m not stressed. I feel comfortable,” Haaland stated. “I have to keep developing and embrace the chaos around me as well as showcasing it on the field.”

In a previous interview, Erling Haaland revealed his admiration for Cristiano Ronaldo, considering him a role model to learn from on his career path.
“Every time Ronaldo steps onto the field, his demeanor exudes a sense of ‘I’m going to be the best today’ or ‘I’m going to score’,” Haaland told ESPN.
“That’s exactly what he delivers afterward. I admire that the most about Ronaldo. He always plays with high determination and a thirst for victory.”
