The illustrious 80-million-euro deal (excluding additional fees) that brought Neymar to Al Hilal, making him the most expensive signing in Saudi Arabian football history, was met with towering expectations. Like a gem atop the Al Hilal crown, Neymar joined a star-studded European ensemble consisting of Koulibaly, Milenkovic-Savic, Malcom, and Mitrovic, aiming to bolster the team’s potential to clinch national and AFC Champions League titles.

However, the star that holds the highest hopes is currently wrapped in uncertainty, primarily due to his ongoing injury woes. At present, Neymar finds himself sidelined with an injury, and even the Al Hilal head coach, Jorge Jesus, remains uncertain about his return.

“He arrived here with a minor injury and won’t be able to train with the team,” stated Coach Jesus. “I’m unsure when he will be fit to play.”

This declaration from Jorge Jesus came just a day after Neymar was summoned to join the Brazilian national team for the World Cup 2026 qualifiers. Selecao’s campaign begins with a match against Bolivia on September 8th at home.

Coach Jesus expressed astonishment and suggested that the Brazilian coaching staff might not have adequately assessed Neymar’s injury status before calling him up. “He can’t play for the national team. He’s injured. I think he shouldn’t even go to Brazil. He needs rest and recovery after an extended period of muscle injury.”

In response, the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) stated, “The medical team of the Brazilian national team has been monitoring Neymar’s health condition for several days. The technical commission is aware of the situation and maintains regular contact with Neymar to track his status.”

Neymar, aged 31, last played for PSG on August 3rd, contributing two goals and an assist in a friendly match against Jeonbuk Motors, resulting in a 3-0 victory. Subsequently, he moved to Al Hilal, where an unexpected injury hindered his participation. This incident follows Neymar’s prolonged recovery from a severe injury in March, which forced him to take a four-month hiatus. With a history of recurring injuries, this signing has undeniably raised many concerns.

As Neymar’s eagerly awaited debut remains on hold, both Al Hilal fans and football enthusiasts worldwide hope for his swift recovery, eager to witness his magic on the pitch once more.
