The French forward Kylian Mbappe has raised eyebrows by not participating in first-team training with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) after declaring his intention not to renew his contract with the club beyond the upcoming summer.

Contrary to letting Mbappe leave on a free transfer at the end of his contract, PSG is now looking to sell him.

Mbappe was set to depart on a free transfer at the end of the 2021-2022 season but eventually signed a two-year contract extension with an option to extend for an additional 12 months.

However, the 24-year-old player has now informed the club of his unwillingness to agree to the one-year extension clause and is reportedly eyeing a free transfer to Real Madrid in 2024.

Mbappe has been left out of PSG’s pre-season tour to Asia. Furthermore, he declined to meet with representatives from Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal, who made a record-breaking £259 million offer for his services.

As PSG embarks on their journey to defend their Ligue 1 title, the futures of Mbappe, as well as his fellow forward Neymar and midfielder Marco Verratti, remain uncertain.

The dynamic between the club and the player is under scrutiny, and PSG is navigating this complex situation as they kick off their Ligue 1 campaign against Lorient on Saturday.
Mbappe’s deal will expire at the end of the upcoming season, and club officials are reportedly aiming for around £250 million for his services.

PSG believes the player has agreed to join Real Madrid in 2024, but affirms he won’t depart on a free transfer.
