Spanish media recently pointed out the reason behind Kylian Mbappe’s sudden rift with PSG, and surprisingly, Real Madrid had nothing to do with it.

A fierce battle of wits is currently taking place in Paris between PSG and Mbappe. The Athletic recently revealed that the club even sent a three-page letter accusing the French international of causing harm to the team.

In the letter, PSG stated that Mbappe publicly expressing his intention not to extend his contract with the club is the source of the turmoil at Parc des Princes. Previously, PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi had expressed disappointment and accused the 24-year-old forward of breaking promises by not committing to the future.

Conflict between PSG and Mbappe intensifies, primarily revolving around the player’s decision to stay or leave.
Not only Mbappe but also his representatives and even Real Madrid have faced criticism from the French public. As Los Blancos have been most frequently linked with the French national team captain in transfer rumors, French media speculated that Real is somewhat involved in Mbappe’s unrest.

Responding to the French accusations, Marca, a renowned Spanish newspaper, revealed the real reason behind Mbappe’s “about-face” with PSG. The influential publication disclosed that the departure of Benzema from Real is the true cause of the 24-year-old forward’s change of heart.

Initially, Mbappe had the idea of staying with PSG under the current contract and considering a possible extension until 2025. However, Benzema’s sudden departure from Real was seen by PSG’s representatives as an excellent opportunity to seize.

Benzema’s exit from Real is believed to have influenced Mbappe’s reluctance to commit to PSG’s future.
However, Mbappe did not explicitly state his desire to leave immediately. Instead, he declared that he would stay in Paris for one more season and refused to extend his contract. This puts immense pressure on PSG as they must sell him to avoid losing him for free.

As for Real Madrid, the club appears quite relaxed as they have already determined to sign Mbappe as a free agent in 2024. The player himself has declared his intention to stay in Paris, so Los Blancos have no need to engage in a bidding war and risk being caught off guard as they did last year.
