Pep Guardiola has highlighted the remarkable versatility of Phil Foden, stating that he can take on various roles within the Manchester City team this season, including a potential position as a center-back. With the departures of Ilkay Gundogan and Riyad Mahrez, there may be ample opportunities for Foden to feature in a central role, although Guardiola acknowledges that adjustments will be needed to play more consistently in the midfield.
“Phil can play in five positions, from forward to left-wing, right-wing, and center forward,” Pep said.
“In the midfield, he needs to be more cautious in several aspects and requires more time to understand what we need in the defensive line, but he has the potential to do something exceptional.
“He is very important. Perhaps he can play more in that position, and we will see.”
Guardiola also alluded to the next significant goal – striving to become the first team to win the Premier League four times consecutively.
“The Premier League is crucial and the most challenging,” he stated.
“It’s truly special. The trophy itself is the most beautiful.
“Burnley will be our first match, and we will prepare to secure the first three points. Step by step.”
