Luka Modric has finally decided to continue his career with Real Madrid and has now put pen to paper on a contract extension with Los Blancos until June 2024. The Croatian midfielder has committed to staying at Real Madrid for an additional 12 months, joining his veteran teammate Toni Kroos.

Santiago Bernabeu’s side signed Modric from Tottenham in 2012, and the midfielder has since won over 20 titles during his time with the Whites, including 5 Champions League trophies. Modric had previously been linked with a move to Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal, but he opted to continue playing at the highest level in the Spanish capital.

Modric also reacted to the contract extension announcement with Real Madrid through a brief social media post, writing on Twitter, “Home sweet home.”

There will be fierce competition for midfield positions at Real Madrid in the upcoming season. Both Modric and Kroos have confirmed their stay at the club, amidst Los Blancos’ successful signing of blockbuster deal Jude Bellingham for 103 million euros.

Furthermore, coach Carlo Ancelotti also has Aurelien Tchouameni, Eduardo Camavinga, and Fede Valverde in the midfield department. The biggest concern for the Madrid-based team at the moment lies in their attacking line after the departure of key forward Karim Benzema, who has moved to the Saudi Pro League with a staggering salary. And there is no doubt that Kylian Mbappe will be Real Madrid’s top priority this summer.
