Rumors have circulated that Neymar would leave PSG, as the French club is reportedly looking to part ways with him at the end of the season. However, transfer expert David Ornstein of The Athletic has confirmed that Neymar is not interested in departing as rumored. “The future of Mbappe and Messi will soon be clarified,” he wrote. “Mbappe needs to inform the club if he wants to extend his contract by two years, while Messi has two options: extend or leave as a free agent. Neymar’s situation carries less pressure, as his contract runs until 2027.”
Neymar joined PSG in 2017 after leaving Barcelona in a record-breaking transfer deal of $263 million, which remains the world’s most expensive football transaction to date. However, Neymar has not lived up to expectations since moving to Parc des Princes. On and off-field troubles have hindered his brilliance, and PSG’s hope of conquering the Champions League alongside Neymar is fading.
The Brazilian striker has secured four Ligue 1 titles with PSG, but the ultimate goal for the French club when they acquired him – winning the Champions League – has remained elusive. This season, Neymar was absent as PSG was eliminated in the Round of 16, losing to Bayern with an aggregate score of 0-3 over two legs.
“Neymar has often been linked with his former club Barcelona or rumored to move elsewhere. However, he has remained at PSG, and this will continue as the 31-year-old forward intends to conclude his career there. Despite financial concerns, Neymar’s desire is to spend the final days of his career at PSG, helping them achieve more glory, especially in the tournament they have yet to conquer,” Ornstein revealed.
Neymar has scored 118 goals in 173 appearances for PSG across all competitions. He will be 34 years old in 2026, the year of the next World Cup held in Canada, Mexico, and the USA, and his contract with PSG will expire one year later when he turns 35.
