On August 14, Reuters reported a setback for Manchester City as Kevin De Bruyne finds himself absent from the squad set to face Sevilla in the UEFA Super Cup. The seasoned midfielder encountered yet another hamstring injury during the opening league match of the season, raising concerns about his consistent fitness challenges.

The Belgian international’s unfortunate exit occurred in the 36th minute of City’s commanding 3-0 victory against Burnley on Friday. De Bruyne’s recurring hamstring issues have been a source of concern, as he had previously been forced to leave the field during the triumphant Champions League final in June. Manager Pep Guardiola confirmed the recent injury is a continuation of the same problematic ailment.

Guardiola expressed his worries about De Bruyne’s condition after the Burnley match, stating, “It’s the hamstring again, same position. I don’t know (how long he will be out), it depends on the magnitude of the injury but it will be a few weeks.” This announcement inevitably raised questions about the midfielder’s anticipated recovery timeline.

In preparation for the upcoming UEFA Super Cup match in Athens on Wednesday, Guardiola assembled a 22-man squad. This prestigious fixture brings together the victors of the previous season’s Champions League and Europa League, showcasing the highest standards of European club football.

As the UEFA Super Cup approaches, Manchester City will undoubtedly feel the absence of De Bruyne’s prowess on the field. Fans and pundits alike will keep a watchful eye on the team’s performance as they strive to overcome this challenge and continue their journey on the European stage.
