“I’m confident that I can play at a high level for another two years, and then we’ll see what happens,” Modric shared.
“I want to finish my career at Real Madrid, but ultimately, it depends on the club. After that, of course, I will embark on the path of a coach.”
Modric, who will turn 35 in September, recently turned down offers from both Milan and Inter to continue his association with Real Madrid.
“Apologies to Milan. They are a great club, just like Real Madrid in Europe. I have spoken with Croatian players currently playing in Italy, such as Brozovic, Badelj, or Pasalic… but I have no intentions of joining Serie A.”
Modric’s contract with Real Madrid runs until 2021, with the possibility of a one-year extension. During this period, the Croatian midfielder will also serve as an assistant to Zidane, allowing him to learn from the experienced coach.
This transitional phase will provide Modric with invaluable experience before officially taking over from Zidane, whose contract extends until 2022.
Aside from Zidane, Modric has worked under renowned managers during his time at Real Madrid, including Jose Mourinho, Carlo Ancelotti, and Rafa Benitez. Hence, he has earned high praise from President Perez.
